Located in a “gaioleiro” building [unreinforced masonry buildings with flexible timber floors] close to the walls of Castelo de São Jorge, the remodelling design for this apartment was both surgical and insightful, while introducing profound alterations to the use of the spaces. The design was based on four relatively simple operations: a set of new elements in painted wood on the walls and ceilings that reorganize the dwelling; a door that was reintroduced to add new possible courses; walls clad in textured paper hand painted in varying colours; and the bathroom ceiling transformed into a skylight.
