“If you don’t have a village, child, go in search of one!” This quotation from João dos Santos served as inspiration for the remodelling and extension of this primary school. The original structures, built around a courtyard, looked as if they were from different periods, creating a village of its own. The new design built discreetly on that idea; the various construction phases are noticeable but the elements are in harmony with each other and respond uniformly to the complex’s differing needs and stages. This school building won the Secil Prize in 2012.
