This research centre is a prime example of Lisbon’s renewal and expansion. A centre of excellence in biomedical research, it reopened to the public an important waterfront zone in Pedrouços, which neighbours Belém. The complex embraces the Tagus estuary, occupying a plot of 65,000 square metres and consisting of three main areas: the main building housing an oncological clinic and research laboratories for cancer and the neurosciences; the public building (with an auditorium, the Darwin restaurant and an exhibition centre); and the open-air amphitheatre.
