Integrated in a larger parochial complex, this church dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, easily goes unnoticed by even the most attentive passer-by along the nearby street. Breaking with religious tradition, Nuno Portas and Nuno Teotónio Pereira returned to the original model of the Romanic church, emphasising the relationship between the sacred space and the surrounding community, in this case taken to the limit by the naked and urban character that the exposed concrete confers. Refined in its work with space, details and lighting, the church surprises the visitor with its monumental interior volumes. In 1975 it was awarded the Valmor Prize and it has been a National Monument since 2010.
