Occupying a large industrial warehouse on the riverfront, Vertigo is not just a climbing space but also an architectural design project. As a symbolic memorial to Lisbon’s industrial past, a structure made of stacked pieces of concrete and blocks of pinewood painted red marks the entrance to an interior space where black metallic elements dominate. A flexible approach has been taken to the layout, allowing for differing uses, including a cafeteria and visitor reception area. Visiting the Vertigo centre also means being able to try out the climbing walls (on indicated tours only).
